In a climate of fear and social isolation, therapists are suddenly being asked to help clients deal with the imminent threat of a deadly disease without the person-to-person contact they value as the heart and soul of psychotherapy. To be alone and dysregulated in a dangerous world is not only frightening but also triggering for many clients. And adding to the difficulty, virtual therapy poses technical problems (like poor reception and unfamiliar technology), creating more anxiety and increased feelings of aloneness and deprivation.
This webcast will offer ways of differentiating the effects of here-and-now threat from body-based implicit memories of danger.
We will demonstrate ways of using Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to meet the challenges of helping clients in a time of shared crisis.
